“Revolutionizing Structural Design: How AI is shaping the Future of Post-Tensioned Concrete Buildings”

The Recent Advances in Generative Design of Post-Tensioned Concrete Floors

POSTECK PRESTRESSING, in collaboration with ALPS CONSULTANTS, is introducing a new generation of post-tensioning engineering design with PTFEM+OP (2026), an advanced AI-assisted design platform that automates and optimizes the complete post-tensioning workflow. By combining finite element analysis, structural mechanics, optimization algorithms, and intelligent design automation, the system enables engineers to produce safer, more economical, and more consistent designs while significantly reducing design time. Rather than replacing engineering judgment, AI serves as a powerful assistant that explores thousands of feasible solutions, allowing engineers to make faster, better-informed decisions based on sound structural mechanics and international design standards, i.e., ACI 318-25 and EIT. 

 

PTFEM+OP is evolving beyond conventional analysis and design software toward a generative and automated design platform for post-tensioned floor systems.

Rather than requiring the engineer to manually define every tendon and repeatedly analyze alternatives, PTFEM+OP integrates computational geometry, shell FEM, engineering design rules, optimization, tendon generation and distribution, constructability adjustment, reinforcement design, quantity take-off, and CAD output into a connected workflow.

Generative optimization is used where multiple feasible design alternatives exist, while deterministic engineering algorithms are retained where a direct solution is more efficient and reliable.

The objective is not optimization for its own sake.

It is to move from:

Model → Analyze → Engineer manually

toward:

Geometry → Generate → Analyze → Optimize → Detail → Verify → Engineer Review

This is the direction we believe practical generative structural design should take.
