Simple but Efficient

SHEAR STUD RAIL

From research laboratory to construction site, our double-headed shear stud rails come in the most efficient form for flat plate construction. They are supported by numerous testing results and real mega construction works. Due to their constructability and cost-effectiveness, our shear stud rails become the new standard equipment for post-tensioned flat plate in Thailand nowadays.

Testing Programs and Simulations

Our Shear Stud Rails result from extensive research and testing to comply with ACI 318-25 and similar building specifications. Part of our previous research and simulations is illustrated below. The design of punching shear and shear stud rails is supported by one of the most advanced systems called PTFEM+OP.

Lateral Cyclic Deformation Test

In cooperation with King Mongkut University North Bangkok, we have conducted lateral cyclic deformation test with full-scale post-tensioned flat plate reinforced with shear stud rail. This experiment reveals superior ductility of slab-column joint beyond 8% drift ratio.

Finite Element Simulation of Shear Stud Rail-Concrete Interaction

As part of our research, a Finite Element Analysis model for shear stud rail and concrete slab is studied to examine the level of effective stress occurring in shear stud rail during slab punching. The analysis results give useful information to dimensioning stud head size and effect of stud spacing.

Punching Shear Analysis Model

This video shows Finite Element Analysis of a prototype concrete slab subjected to punching force. The effective stress is plotted to indicate the area where shear stress concentrates around column.

Generative Design using PTFEM+OP F9

PTFEM+OP (2026) is our recent generative design software with an integrated module for punching shear analysis. The program combines the accuracy of the Finite Element Method with optimization techniques and many intelligent algorithms. It allows the use of shear stud rail with a drop panel where different stud lengths must be used.  This feature is not commonly found in most commercial software nowadays. PTFEM+OP also auto-generates a shear cap object once the combined shear stress at the slab-column connection exceeds the limit for using shear stud rail.

AUTO SHEAR CAP DESIGN WITH PTFEM+OP F9

When the combined shear stress at the slab-column connection exceeds the limit per ACI 318-25: 22.6.6, where using shear stud rail is prohibited, PTFEM+OP automatically suggests the minimum dimension of the shear cap, rather than blindly performing shear stud rail design.  This auto CAP can be simply transformed to the physical CAP in the model if desired. This optimization algorithm helps us design in compliance with code requirements without attempting a trial-and-error process.

PT-PUNCH Software

PT-PUNCH is our legacy in-house software for automated design of punching shear reinforcement. Developed in 2015 on .NET 4.0 framework, it can help our engineers to design punching shear reinforcement with time-saving and precision.

Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis

This video shows the analysis of concrete slab subjected to lateral cyclic deformation. It reveals higher level of VM stresses in shear stud rail close to column face than those at distant locations. Also we found that high stress concentration occurs at stud head as the slab has deformed. This validates the importance of shear stud head to work as anchorage.
